With the goal of decreasing childhood obesity, Beach Cities Health District launched its “Walking School Bus” (WSB) program on Oct. 9 in elementary schools throughout Redondo, Hermosa and Manhattan Beach. More than 700 elementary-aged children from 14 area schools are expected to participate in the walk-to-school initiative, which is launching for the third straight year on International Walk to School Day.
Our coverage of the 2013 Manhattan Beach Hometown Fair. The 2013 Manhattan Beach Hometown Fair took place October 5th and 6th. Thousands of people attended this years fair to enjoy the arts and crafts, games, food, beer and wine garden,live music, kids country and more.
We produced the 2013 Hermosa Beach Ironman for the Easy Reader Newspaper. Several hundred competitors, cheered on by a similar number of supporters, competed in the event, which requires running a mile, paddling a mile and chugging a six pack of beer, without upchucking.
The 2011 White Light White Night event took place Saturday, July 16th in Redondo Beach. The 5th Annual Walk With Sally fundraiser was headlined by a musical performance from the Blues Travelers and featured food from local restaurants, drinks and auction items.
We produced a political round table show at the Comedy and Magic Club in Hermosa Beach. The panelist included former Manhattan Beach Mayor Bob Holmes, former Hermosa Beach Mayor Michael Keegan, owner/publisher of the Easy Reader Newspaper Kevin Cody and community activist Gerry O’Connor. It was hosted by Senior Deputy to Los Angeles County Supervisor Don Knabe, Steve Napolitano.
