Chasing Puddles in Manhattan Beach
We love puddles.
We don’t get much rain here in the South Bay, so when it does rain we get out there and play. Locations include the Manhattan Beach Pier and Polliwog Park.

We sat down with Sea Lab director Marie Madrigal to discuss the Sea Lab in Redondo Beach.
Since 1997, the LA Conservation Corps has operated and managed the SEA Lab, a hands-on science center dedicated to marine conservation and education programs, located in Redondo Beach.
Each year, SEA Lab staff, Corpsmembers and volunteers educate school children and visitors about marine life and the importance of protecting our oceans.
Michael Schreiber calls South Bay Customs in El Segundo home. Home is a place where he can not only build motorcycles, but assemble something else, something he’d never seen before except in his mind’s eye — a pirate’s ship of a building, a skull and bones kingdom where he can make his own rules.

June gloom doesn’t stop tourist and locals from enjoying Manhattan Beach. We set out one early morning in June at the Manhattan Beach Pier to catch people hanging out, surfing and being active.

Mural honoring Hermosa Beach volleyball debuts on June 25th
Completed by noted local photographer Bo Bridges, the mural uses high-resolution photos on a vinyl-based material, and covers the south- and west-facing walls of the foot of the downtown parking structure. It dispenses with veneration of past stars — one image captures nothing above the knees—in favor of a multi-panel ode to the game’s athleticism. Anonymous players leap into the sky, sand exploding off the beach as though propelled by a land-mine.

Civic Couch went behind the scenes with the Goodyear Blimp
The Goodyear Blimp “Spirit of Innovation” recently celebrated it’s 10 year milestone of it’s christening at it’s Carson home. Chances are you’ve seen the Goodyear blimp flying over the South Bay. We wanted to get more information about the Goodyear and their airships. Spirit of Innovation will remain in California through late 2017, when it will be retired and replaced by Wingfoot Two.
Senior pilot William Bayliss with the Goodyear Airship Operations explains the “Spirit of Innovation”.

We spent a day cruising around the South Bay in a 2016 Toyota Prius provided to use through Manhattan Beach Toyota. We started off by grabbing a cup of coffee at Java Man in Hermosa Beach. After coffee, we grabbed out boards and went for a surf in Manhattan Beach. We ended the day having dinner with our princess at MB Post in Manhattan Beach. It was a great day, and the needle on our gas gauge barely moved!
