This is a collection of beautiful unridden wave photos that I shot throughout the South Bay during February. These were taken from the beach and in the ocean.
There have been a few good days of surf so far in the 2014-2015 surfing season here in Los Angeles. This particular day, December 14th 2014, peaked up a long interval northwest swell that brought not only good size, but good shape too. Tyler Hatzikian, Noah Collins, Dane Zaun, John Gilmore, Ted Robinson, Chris Frohoff and others were in the right place for the swell.
El Porto has it moments, as was the case on December 8th when head high plus sets rolled through this stretch of Manhattan Beach. Wagner Deabreu. Chris Frohoff, Flavio Pires, Jake K-Baum and others were in the right spot that morning.
December 11th brought some thick wind swell waves to the South Bay. Cheyne Magnusson, Timmy Reyes, Andy Prunauer, Kyle Beatty and others attacked these mutants as best as they could, sometimes finding gems in the rough.
Our first real swell of the 2014-2015 surf season hit the South Bay at the end of October (early Halloween treat). Since it’s the first swell in months, the sand bars were non existing offering decent size but mostly walled close-outs. On November 1st, Spyder Surf brought back the annual “Scare and Tear” Surf Contest at the Manhattan Beach Pier. Based on a sinful criteria of 50% costume and 50% wave slashing, the creepy contest brought out all the ghouls for a spook-tacular time. This was a fun contest to shoot as the contestants themselves were all out there having more fun than competing.
