After 9 years of planning, the City of El Segundo now has flushing toilets for beach goers. Sparked by former El Segundo City Councilman Jim Boulgarides, the restroom/shower/lifeguard tower has been completed with the assistance of Chevron, Don Knabe, the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power, Southern California Edison, and NRG Energy. The long awaited project was official opened on Wednesday with an official ribbon cutting.

August 21, 2013 marked the groundbreaking ceremony for the new Manhattan Beach Library. Guest speakers included the county Librarian, Margaret Donnellan Todd, Los Angeles County Supervisor Don Knabe, Manhattan Beach Mayor David Lesser and the Director of the Los Angeles County Dept. of Public Works Gail Farber. The Manhattan Beach Library is set to open in the spring of 2015.
